Gilead Food PantryThen the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?' And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.' Matt 25:34-40 (NRSV) Gilead maintains a Food Pantry for those in our community in need. We accept referrals from the Departments of Social Services, Community Action Program, other churches and social service agencies, and walk-ins. The Food Pantry is open Friday mornings 10 -12. For more information or to make a referral, please call Marj at 845-279-5941 or Darla at 845-228-0589. Food Pantry Report - 2007Throughout 2007 the Gilead Food Pantry remained open on Fridays, from 10 AM to 12 noon, plus occasional other days for Holiday distribution of food or for urgent need. The numbers of people coming for food has continued to increase steadily as shown below:
Gilead's cash allotment from the New York State Regional Food Bank for July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008, is $2400, up from $1500 for the previous year, which has been a help, but is not nearly the amount of money needed to keep our pantry shelves well stocked. For this reason we have continued to rely heavily on the food and cash donations from Gilead members and friends, and we have been very thankful for these. The gift certificates being sold, with the money going to the food pantry, have given a much needed boost to the Gilead Food Pantry account. The Hunger Project has continued to meet to work on the increasing need of the Putnam Food Pantries; countywide food collections were held at supermarkets during May and September. Also, the annual food collection by the Carmel Post Office in May kept our shelves full for awhile. |
