Carmel Nursery School
The Carmel Nursery School is Gilead's nonsectarian school for 3 to 5 year olds. Since it was founded in 1949, CNS has been a respected community resource for early childhood education.
Co-directors Sue Stone and Sue O'Brien bring a wealth of experience to the school.
The school offers two and three day programs mornings and a three day program in the afternoon. They follow the same calendar as the Carmel Central School district.
In preparing a child for Kindergarten, our philosophy is learning through experience. We provide a daily routine balanced between free and structured play time, crafts, music, circle time, computer time, snack, and whenever possible - enjoying the playground.
The curriculum coordinates daily activities around such themes as Community Helpers, Self and Family, and Storybooks, to name only a few. Utilizing the team teaching method, three teachers give a student to teacher ratio of approximately 8 to 1.
For children scheduled to enter public school in September of the year, we routinely prepare a detailed evaluation of Kindergarten readiness. At this time, we welcome the opportunity to discuss each child's development as he/she and the family approach this milestone in a child's life. We also have readily available referral resources for families who may require special assistance.
For more information, please call the school at 845-225-8044.
